Services

Software services built around outcomes, not technology

Six areas of work, one way of working: understand the process first, build the smallest thing that fixes it, and hand over something you own outright.

All services

Custom Software

One system that matches your real process, instead of four tools and a spreadsheet holding the gaps together.

  • A written workflow and data model you can read without being technical
  • A working application deployed to your own cloud accounts
  • Role-based accounts for the people who use it

Customer Portals

A portal takes the ten repeated questions off your phone and puts them behind a login, answered accurately, at two in the morning.

  • Authenticated customer accounts with password reset and session handling
  • Role-based permissions covering customers, staff, and administrators
  • Live status views driven by your real records

Mobile Apps

Cross-platform apps in React Native and Expo — including the background, permission, and store-review work that decides whether an app actually ships.

  • iOS and Android apps from a single TypeScript codebase
  • Store-ready builds via EAS, with signing set up in your own developer accounts
  • Permission flows and privacy declarations that match what the app actually does

Workflow Automation

Connect the tools you already pay for, and let the handoffs happen without someone remembering to do them.

  • A written map of the current workflow, including the undocumented steps
  • Automated handoffs between the systems you already use
  • Scheduled jobs for recurring work

MVP Development

A first version scoped to answer the one question your idea actually depends on — built to ship, not to demo.

  • A scoped first version with the riskiest assumption stated in writing
  • Working software deployed and usable by real users
  • Analytics on the specific behaviour that answers your question

Ongoing Support

Ongoing maintenance for software we built or inherited — security updates, platform changes, fixes, and steady improvement.

  • Dependency and security updates applied on a regular schedule
  • Platform and OS compatibility maintained ahead of deadlines
  • A defined channel for reporting issues, with agreed response times

How engagements work

Three stages, each with its own decision point

You are never committed to the next stage by having done the previous one.

Common questions

Where should we start if we are not sure what we need?

The discovery sprint. It exists precisely for that. It is priced separately and produces a written workflow map and scope, so you end up with something useful even if you decide not to build.

Do you work with businesses outside New Jersey?

Yes. The studio is based in Madison, New Jersey and works with clients remotely. Discovery works well over video calls, and in-person time is straightforward for anyone in the region.

How is this priced?

Discovery is a fixed fee. Build work is quoted as fixed-price milestones from the discovery output, so you are approving a known number rather than an hourly estimate. Support is a monthly plan.

Who owns what is built?

You do — the code, the repository, the cloud accounts, and the developer accounts, all in your name from the start rather than transferred at the end.

Can you take over software someone else built?

Often. It starts with a paid review of the codebase and infrastructure. Sometimes the honest answer is that rebuilding costs less than maintaining what exists, and that is worth establishing before committing to either.

How large a team is DeviceBytes Software?

It is a founder-led studio. Philip Rodriguez does the discovery and writes the code. That is the whole model — it means direct access and no handover losses, and it means we scope honestly rather than promising more capacity than exists.

Have a software project in mind?

Let's turn it into a clear, buildable plan. A first call is a conversation about your workflow — not a sales pitch, and not a commitment.
